Summary of Role:

The Lead Editor assists the Editorial Director in implementing the content strategy for the future.aicpa.org platform to achieve high-quality content that attracts and engages the audience. The LE plans, oversees and manages daily content operations for future.aicpa.org. The LE curates, commissions, creates and manages written, visual and audio content and associated graphic assets, implements editorial timelines and tracks and reports performance, collaborating with stakeholders to ensure content quality, volume and engagement.


Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

  • Plans, oversees and manages daily content operations for future.aicpa.org. Manages editorial meetings, schedules and project tracking. (25%)
  • Builds collaborative and effective relationships with all platform stakeholders, including content creators for quality content, with marketers to drive engagement and designers to contribute to visual layout. Functions as projects editor for high quality, accurate, timely content deliverables to communicate on Association initiatives and key professional issues. (20%)
  • Assists Editorial Director in curating, commissioning, creating and managing high-quality content to implement future.aicpa.org content strategy. Evaluates finalized copy for compliance with policies, style and tone. (15%)
  • Edits, proofreads and suggests improvements to commissioned white label and bespoke content; Implements style guidelines; Selects and approves imagery; Complies with copyright and privacy regulations; Adheres to SEO rules. (15%)
    • Assists with editorial insights and guidance for migration strategy (10%)
    • Work with business owners to get quality content ready for the platform
    • Works with the content migration team to ensure that the right content is flowing on to the new platform in the most effective way possible and assisting in ensuring content performance and engagement. 
  • Tracks important content KPIs and assesses and reports content performance; produces and presents reports. (10%)
  • Keeps abreast of new trends in web technology, professional publishing, content strategy and management. (5%)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Written, visual and audio content idea generation, commissioning, creation and processing skills to efficiently create and manage needed reliable, timely content

  • Expert writing, editing and communication skills

  • Familiarity with content management and performance tracking systems

  • Effective relationship building and collaborative working skills with a wide range of stakeholders, including the content creators, marketers and designers

  • Website analytics and analysis

  • Understanding of sensitivities and nuances on multiple issues and involving different stakeholders

  • Leadership abilities to influence others and build consensus.

  • Excellent project planning and management to work on multiple projects simultaneously

  • Strategic thinking, solid data analysis and strong decision making

  • Ability to spot trends in business, academia, careers and relate them to accounting profession

  • Ability to translate complex and/or technical information into thought leadership messaging

Required Experience, Qualifications & Education:

  • Minimum 5-7 years writing and editing content for a professional B2B market (accounting, law, finance)

  • Minimum 3-5 years experience commissioning, managing or publishing professional digital content for a professional B2B market (accounting, law, finance) website

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Web Publishing or a related substantive field

 

Preferred Experience, Qualifications & Education:

  • Master’s Degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or a related field

  • Experience with web marketing, content migration, CMS, web publishing and design and analytics

  • Experience or knowledge of CPA profession and/or financial services profession, or other technical      field

  • Understanding of platform content strategy

  • Experience with content migration strategy, including getting quality content ready for migration

  • Experience standing up rapid response to immediate content needs, such as COVID-19

 

Job Impact:

The Lead Editor works toward specific content and web performance targets or goals in its efforts to accomplish the organization’s strategy of digital engagement. The Lead Editor tracks, assesses and reports the platform’s content performance, while aligning to the organizational content goals of engagement, value proposition and revenue.

 

Contribution:

The Lead Editor indirectly influences achievement of the organization’s goals concerning delivering the value proposition, as measured by net promoter score and engagement, and indirectly contributes to revenue generation by increasing the number of people who engage with digital content by creating reliable, engaging and timely content.

 

Communication Complexities:

All the content created is to external audiences. Most of the communications are to internal audiences. Most meetings have conflicting objectives that must be negotiated.

Innovation / Problem Solving:

The lead editor works with the editorial director to significantly enhance/change entire existing processes and systems as it pertains to what content is posted where. Future.aicpa.org is a new site, so the lead editor must solve the problem of implementing a content strategy, deciding between which content to post when, balancing between numerous digital platforms and how to efficiently create additional content with limited resources. Once processes are established, the lead editor will follow the established policies, making changes as needed.

 

Complexity:

Initially, the lead editor will work on implementing content strategy, creation and migration, which requires complicated, multifaceted solutions. Ultimately, the challenges will become more defined and more easily understood. Initially, the lead editor will work collaboratively with marketing, web design and value proposition to address a series of complicated multifaceted issues that require multifaceted solutions and ultimately, once addressed, will work with more defined and easily understood issues.

 

Breadth:

This position currently works with future.aicpa.org, the content of which mostly serves the US. The teams working on the platform are throughout the Association.
