Technical Manager - Professional Practice
The Center for Audit Quality (CAQ) is an autonomous public policy organization affiliated with the AICPA and dedicated to enhancing investor confidence and public trust in the global capital markets by fostering high quality performance by public company auditors; convening and collaborating with other stakeholders to advance the discussion of critical issues requiring action and intervention; and advocating policies and standards that promote public company auditors’ objectivity, effectiveness and responsiveness to dynamic market conditions.
Technical Manager, Professonal Practice
Summary:
This is a dynamic opportunity to address the critical issues facing the public company audit profession and its stakeholders in the investor and regulatory communities. We are seeking a professional with recent public company auditing experience to join the CAQ’s Professional Practice team and successfully manage and support technical and policy-oriented projects for cross-functional working groups and task forces comprising representatives from the profession. Working in the CAQ’s Professional Practice department provides high-performing individuals an opportunity to accelerate their professional and career development while expanding their professional network.

We also strive to continually enhance our working relationships with regulators and other key stakeholders to position the CAQ as the voice of the profession on key regulatory and public policy issues. Our governance structure allows Professional Practice personnel to collaborate with a diverse group of peers and experienced Partners who are technical subject matter experts in their firms.
The successful candidate will identify, develop, and seek consensus on emerging technical and public policy issues affecting the public company auditing profession, and will help develop thought leadership for an external audience on auditing and financial reporting matters to advance CAQ priorities. The position is located in Washington DC.
Working closely with and under the direction of CAQ leadership:
- Prepare CAQ comment letters on key federal regulatory policy proposals issued by the PCAOB and SEC.
- Develop technical content and thought leadership for new and emerging auditing and financial reporting issues
- Coordinate activities and meetings of CAQ committees, task forces, and working groups involving member firms and stakeholders
- Respond to technical inquiries from CAQ member firms regarding public company auditing
- Engage with members of the profession and regulatory staff to foster a positive working relationship with the CAQ.
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting; current CPA license required
- 5 - 8 years public accounting/public company auditing or comparable experience
- Strong technical knowledge of PCAOB standards
- A strong desire to broaden your technical skills
- Strong verbal communication, presentation and writing skills
- Ability to research auditing inquiries and analyze emerging issues
- Excellent project management and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to successfully administer projects and timelines, including the ability to work well under tight time constraints.
- Demonstrated experience working in cross-functional teams to meet deadlines and achieve established goals.
